Memorial Day holiday schedule

Wednesday, May 15, 2019 - 11:49am

The Wake Forest Town Hall and other administrative offices will be closed Monday, May 27, in observance of Memorial Day. Wake Forest Bus Service, along with curbside trash, recycling and yard waste collection will also be suspended.

Wake Forest Bus Service, including the Wake Forest-Raleigh Express and the Wake Forest Loop, will resume its normal schedule Tuesday, May 28.

During the week of May 27, the trash and recycling collection schedule will operate one day later than normal. So, for example, Monday’s route will be collected Tuesday and Friday’s route will be collected Saturday.

Please remember not to place plastic bags or plastic wrap/film in your recycling cart. Starting June 1, recycling rollout carts that contain plastic bags or wrap will not be serviced and instead will be tagged with a non-collection notice.

Yard waste collection will resume Tuesday, May 28, at 7 a.m. Crews will follow the normal collection schedule beginning with Monday’s route. Collection of the Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday routes will occur throughout the remainder of the week until all routes have been completed.

To ensure that all neighborhoods are serviced properly, Wake Forest residents are urged to leave their normal yard waste at the curb by 7 a.m. Tuesday. As always, please avoid placing items on or near mailboxes, utility boxes, utility poles or other fixed objects.

Bulk pickups will be scheduled for Wednesday, May 29. To schedule a bulk pick-up, complete the online bulk waste pick-up request form at www.wakeforestnc.gov/online-bulk-waste-pickup-request-form.aspx by 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28.

Residents without internet service can schedule their pick-up by calling 919-435-9570 by 2 p.m. May 28. Residents who call after hours may leave a voicemail message. All voicemail requests for bulk pick-up service must include the resident’s name, physical address, and telephone number, along with a description of the bulk waste items to be collected. Any service request that does not include the required information will not be processed.

When scheduling a bulk waste pick-up, Wake Forest residents are urged to follow the Town’s bulk waste guidelines. Defined in the Town of Wake Forest Code of Ordinances as “refuse weighing in excess of 75 pounds each,” bulk waste includes any item that does not fit in the Town-issued roll-out garbage cart. Examples of bulk waste pick-up items include furniture, lawn mowers, swings, and book shelves. For more information, visit wakeforestnc.gov and search “Bulk pickup.”

Town offices will re-open Tuesday, May 29, at 8 a.m.

Wake Forest residents are strongly encouraged to stay informed about the Town’s trash, recycling and yard waste collection programs, including changes to the normal collection schedules, by signing up for the “Waste Wizard.” Available on the Town’s website at www.wakeforestnc.gov/public-works/sanitation/waste-wizard, the Waste Wizard is an interactive tool that allows users to sign up for waste collection reminders and download collection schedules. As a bonus, the Waste Wizard is provided as a function on the Town of Wake Forest app. For more information or to download the Town’s app, visit www.wakeforestnc.gov/communications/app-download.

Residents can also receive email notifications concerning the Town’s holiday operations schedule by signing up for E-Notifier at www.wakeforestnc.gov/communications/e-notifier.
