The Wake Forest Fire Department (WFFD) and several other local fire departments will participate in a Fire Truck Parade to commence “Camp Celebrate” this Friday, May 17.

The procession is scheduled to depart Triangle Town Center at approximately 1:30 p.m. and head north along US 1/Capital Boulevard before continuing west on NC 98/Durham Road to Camp Kanata. The parade of fire trucks is expected to come through Wake Forest at approximately 1:45 p.m. - with sirens wailing.

WFFD crews will be positioned at several intersections along US 1/Capital Boulevard to assist with the procession, including Burlington Mills Road, South Main Street/US 1A and Dr. Calvin Jones Bypass/NC 98. Crews will also be situated at intersections along NC 98/Durham Road, including Retail Drive and Thompson Mill Road.

The first camp in the United States for children who have survived burn injury, Camp Celebrate meets for the 36th time this weekend at Camp Kanata in Wake Forest.

Camp Celebrate is a weekend camping experience for children and adolescents who have survived burn injury, many of whom have been treated at the N.C. Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Started in 1982, Camp Celebrate is a unique therapeutic experience designed to enhance each camper’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth. Volunteers from across the state, including firefighters and Jaycees, join the Burn Center staff in providing the campers a fun and enriching experience.

Since its inception, the weekend camp gets underway each year with a Fire Truck Parade that includes as many as 40 fire trucks representing numerous local fire departments. With sirens wailing, the trucks transport the Camp Celebrate campers from Triangle Town Center Mall in Raleigh to Camp Kanata.
