Understanding the Town's Employment Application Process

To be considered for an opportunity with The Town of Wake Forest, you must complete a separate Employment Application for each position for which you are applying. Resumes alone do not qualify as an application and will not be considered unless attached to a fully completed Town of Wake Forest Employment Application. You may download an application from this website or obtain one at Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. You may also call 919-435-9492 to have an application mailed to you. Applications must be received by mail, delivered to Town Hall or emailed to HumanResources@wakeforestnc.gov by 5 p.m. on the closing day. All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening. When we receive an application, we send out a post card to each applicant to confirm receipt and to ensure consideration.  To check on the status of a position, please scroll down to the bottom of this page for additional information.  All qualified applications are forwarded to the hiring department and as soon as we hear from the hiring manager, we update both this webpage and our job line. Unless there is an update posted, applications are still being reviewed.  For general employees, we will contact you within two weeks of the position closing date if we are planning to pursue your candidacy.  Our hiring process takes longer for police officers, however, we will contact you within three months of receiving your application if we are interested in pursuing your candidacy.

  • Development Services Manager (Planning Department) 
    Application Deadline: Open until filled

    The Town of Wake Forest is seeking a high-level professional planner to join our Planning Department. The position will manage the current planning and development services section of the department, which includes code enforcement, flood prevention, plan review, development permit issuance and zoning administration. Work requires considerable knowledge of the planning field and local ordinances, and strong public relations skills. The Development Services Manager will oversee the development processes and ensure that agenda material is prepared professionally for Planning Board, Board of Commissioners, Technical Review Committee, Board of Adjustment, and Design Review Board. This position will prepare the annual budget for services, oversee consultant contracts, prepare monthly and annual development reports, recommend planning policies, and coordinate all phases of development. Work is supervised by the Assistant Planning Director. A master's degree in urban planning or related field is preferred. AICP certification is required or the ability to be obtained within one year of employment. Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. The Town offers an excellent benefits package.
  • Part-Time Recreation Center Supervisor at Alston Massenburg Center (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $11.49/hour

    We are currently seeking applications for a team member to work at the Alston-Massenburg Center located in the Town of Wake Forest. The ideal candidate must be available to work approximately 20-25 hours a week with work occurring primarily on the weekend. The employee in this position will perform a variety of complex duties in the operation and supervision of a community-based recreational facility for the Town of Wake Forest. This position is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day supervision of various activities and services administered by the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department. Areas of assignments will include assisting with special events, preschool and youth programs, athletics, adult programs, and senior programs. The selected candidate will be required to obtain the following certifications within six months of hire: First Aid/CPR/AED certifications.
  • Telecommunicator (Public Safety Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest  is seeking a team-player to receive emergency and routine calls for police assistance and general information. The ideal candidate must be able to dispatch police units, operate a variety of electronic equipment and answer several incoming calls at one time. Work requires frequent public contact that will require tact, firmness, decisiveness, and judgment in order to obtain necessary information from people who are under extreme stress. Must be able to multi-task and choose appropriate courses of action in a rapid and efficient manner. DCI operator certification is preferred. We will conduct a thorough background investigation, as this is a highly sensitive position. High school diploma or equivalent required. Preference will be given to applicants with public safety experience. Shift work required and will include some nights, weekends and holidays). This is an essential position for purposes of inclement weather.
  • Electric Powerline Technician II (Electric Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest is seeking a knowledgeable individual to perform technical Powerline work. Duties include but are not limited to: construction, maintenance and repair of electrical power distribution systems. Position requires knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions necessary in powerline work. The ideal candidate will have the ability to climb poles, work on high voltage lines under supervision and take precautionary measures to avoid accidents. Valid Class A CDL required. This is an essential position for purposes of inclement weather.  Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
  • Police Officer (Public Safety Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified officers to join our Public Safety Department. Selected individuals will perform general law enforcement work to protect life and property within the Town of Wake Forest corporate limits. A high school diploma or equivalent is required along with a valid NC Drivers License. Applicants must have no criminal record and need to submit to a background check, a polygraph, a physical and psychological screening. North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) required. Only applicants with NCBLET Certification will be considered. Shift work required.
  • Construction Worker III (Streets Department)
    ​Application Deadline: Open until filled
    Minimum Starting Salary: $34,977   

    We are seeking a motivated team member to perform a variety of labor tasks in construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks/curbs and storm drainage. This position requires extensive construction experience, operation of equipment at a high skill level, leading of work crews in the absence of a crew supervisor, and the ability to operate construction equipment and tools safely. Applicants must be able to read, write, follow directions and exert up to 100 pounds of force and endure exposure to all weather conditions. Applicants must have experience in skilled construction equipment operation and supervisory experience. Valid Class A CDL and street flagging certification is required.   Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
