Understanding the Town's Employment Application Process

To be considered for an opportunity with The Town of Wake Forest, you must complete a separate Employment Application for each position for which you are applying. Resumes alone do not qualify as an application and will not be considered unless attached to a fully completed Town of Wake Forest Employment Application. You may download an application from this website or obtain one at Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. You may also call 919-435-9492 to have an application mailed to you. Applications must be received by mail, delivered to Town Hall or emailed to HumanResources@wakeforestnc.gov by 5 p.m. on the closing day. All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening. When we receive an application, we send out a post card to each applicant to confirm receipt and to ensure consideration.  To check on the status of a position, please scroll down to the bottom of this page for additional information.  All qualified applications are forwarded to the hiring department and as soon as we hear from the hiring manager, we update both this webpage and our job line. Unless there is an update posted, applications are still being reviewed.  For general employees, we will contact you within two weeks of the position closing date if we are planning to pursue your candidacy.  Our hiring process takes longer for police officers, however, we will contact you within three months of receiving your application if we are interested in pursuing your candidacy.

  • Part-Time Event Staff (Renaissance Centre)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $11.49/per hour

    The Renaissance Centre for the Arts is accepting applications for Part-Time Event Staff to execute a wide range of duties for the Renaissance Centre. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule primarily nights, weekends and some daytime hours. Duties will include but are not limited to: moving table and chairs to create and subsequently tear down various room layouts, ticket collection, concession sales, coat check, clearing tables, beverage service and most importantly providing exceptional guest services. Applicants with prior work experience as service staff preferred.

 

  • Transportation Planning Manager(Planning Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks an energetic and team oriented individual for the position of Transportation Planning Manager. An employee in this class is responsible for the planning and development of transportation-related programs and direct supervision of transportation planning personnel. Work involves high-level professional planner responsibilities in the formation, installation, modification and improvement of the Town's transportation program. The ideal candidate will recommend transportation planning policies for approval, consult with officials of local governments, state, MPO and the federal government to coordinate all phases of the town's transportation planning; assist with the development and implementation of the town's transportation related plans such as bicycle, pedestrian, transportation and open space greenways; prepare public presentations and materials and coordinate with state, county, municipal, transit agencies, and community groups. The successful candidate will administer the Town's Locally Administered Projects Program (LAPP); conduct field work to achieve transportation related project objectives and needs; and serve as staff liaison to assigned advisory boards. Work is supervised by the Planning Director and is evaluated through conferences, reports, and progress on assigned duties, planning projects and efforts. Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in urban and regional planning, transportation planning, geography, landscape architecture or related field with considerable professional planning experience in the transportation field, including supervisory experience. A master's degree in urban planning or related field is preferred. AICP certification or the ability to obtain within one year of employment.  Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.   • Assistant Planning Director (Planning Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks an energetic and team oriented individual for the position of Assistant Planning Director. Work involves high level professional planner responsibilities in the installation, modification and improvement of the Town's development related codes and ordinances. Administrative and technical supervision is exercised over professional planners and/or clerical staff. The successful candidate will manage the current planning and development services section of the department which includes code enforcement, flood prevention, plan review, development permit issuance and zoning administration. The individual in this position also prepares, reviews and edits agenda material for Planning Board, Technical Review Committee, Board of Adjustment and Design Review Board. The ideal candidate will handle department personnel matters, facilitate sensitive and complex development and zoning related issues; oversee consultant contracts; lead the Town's annexation program; and develop and process UDO and code ordinances text amendments. Education: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in urban and regional planning, geography, landscape architecture or related field with considerable professional planning experience, including supervisory experience. A master's degree in urban planning or related field is preferred. AICP certification is required or the ability to be obtained within one year of employment.   • Parks & Recreation Maintenance Specialist (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks a motivated and team oriented individual for the position of Parks and Recreation Maintenance Specialist. An employee in this class is responsible for performing various maintenance tasks in relation to parks, greenways, and open spaces. In this position, employees maintain and prepare sports fields, landscaped areas, greenway corridors and surfaces, and perform upkeep practices on hardscapes and park amenities. Set-up, breakdown and support of departmental evens is also necessary for this position. Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry and horticultural practices is desired. Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED with experience working in landscape maintenance and small equipment operation. Semi-skilled building trade and sports field maintenance experience preferred. NC Ornamental and Turf Pesticide License required within 9 months of hire.
     
  • Energy & Line Location Specialist (Electric Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks an enthusiastic individual for the position of Energy and Line Location Specialist with our Public Works Department, Electric Division. Duties will include but are not limited to: performing line locates to identify underground electrical lines and the continued development and implementation of the Town’s residential energy auditing program.  The successful candidate will be very comfortable with public interaction as this position enjoys a high degree of citizen contact including the creation and execution of Energy Fair presentations.  This position reports to the Electric Meter Supervisor however, work is performed independently therefore the selected candidate will be expected to exercise discretion and sound decision-making.  All work is performed in the presence of energized electrical lines. Hours of work: 7:00am- 3:30pm.
     
  • Police Officer (Public Safety Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified officers to join our Public Safety Department. Selected individuals will perform general law enforcement work to protect life and property within the Town of Wake Forest corporate limits. A high school diploma or equivalent is required along with a valid NC Drivers License. Applicants must have no criminal record and need to submit to a background check, a polygraph, a physical and psychological screening. North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) required. Only applicants with NCBLET Certification will be considered. Shift work required.
     
  • Fleet Services Superintendent (Fleet Maintenance Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks a knowledgeable and professional individual for the position of Fleet Services Superintendent.  An employee in this class is responsible for the operation of the Town’s garage, which is engaged in repairing and servicing a variety of vehicles and equipment.  The ideal candidate will have to plan and supervise the maintenance and repair of municipal equipment including parts and inventory control, vehicle maintenance record system, and quality control.  An employee in class is often engaged in direct repair and installation work and assists employees in troubleshooting the most difficult issues.  Initiative and judgment are required in scheduling repair work, supervising the preventive maintenance program, and supervision of employees.  Strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral & written communication skills, and computer ability are essential.  The selected candidate will also serve as administrator of the fleet fuel card system and of the vehicle and equipment GPS system.   Educational Requirement:  High school graduation required, supplemented by technical or vocational automotive/heavy equipment maintenance training and extensive experience in skilled automotive/heavy equipment repair work, including computerized equipment management and record keeping. Must have at least four to five years of experience working with the operation, maintenance, or administration of fleets of vehicles as well as supervisory experience or any combination of education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities to meet the above minimum requirements.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the public works director.   Hours of work: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
     
  • Senior Electric Powerline Technician (Electric Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $46,873

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks an energetic and team oriented individual for the position of Senior Electric PowerLine Technician.  An employee in this class supervises and participates in a variety of skilled and technical tasks associated with the electric distribution facilities and lines.  The work performed by this class is the highest skill of the lineman class series.  Work is distinguished from other Power Line Technicians by the level of independence, skill and experience.  Work requires the employee to provide on the job training to lower level Power Line Technicians or ground workers.  The employee is required to have considerable knowledge of the safety requirements and possible hazards involved in power line work.  Independent judgement is exercised in determining the most appropriate methods and equipment when working with high voltage wires.  Work requires frequent on-call and call-back responsibilities Work is performed under an Electric Power Line Crew Supervisor and is evaluated by observation of operational and safety standards compliance, productivity and safetyEducational Requirement:  Graduation from high school supplemented with technical courses related to electricity and electrical theory and a minimum of 10 years Lineman experience.  Must possess a valid Class “A” NC Commercial driver's license and Power Line Technician Journeyman Certification.  Hours of work: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
     
  • Equipment Mechanic I (Fleet Maintenance Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks an energetic and team oriented individual for the position of Equipment Mechanic I.  An employee in this class serves as a skilled mechanic in the garage.  The employee performs automotive and mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel engines and performing preventive maintenance.  The work requires operation of various test equipment and hand tools in order to support the work activities.  The employee is subject to hazards associated with mechanical repairs including working in both inside and outside environments, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils.  The work in this class is distinguished from that of the equipment mechanic II by the difficulty of work assigned and the technical knowledge required to perform the work, especially in the area of electronics. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Fleet Services Superintendent.  Educational Requirement:  Graduation from high school supplemented by course work in equipment maintenance, and considerable related experience in repairing automotive, construction, and specialized equipment.  Hours of work: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
     
  • Construction Worker III (Streets Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $34,977   

    We are seeking a motivated team member to perform a variety of labor tasks in construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks/curbs and storm drainage. This position requires extensive construction experience, operation of equipment at a high skill level, leading of work crews in the absence of a crew supervisor, and the ability to operate construction equipment and tools safely. Applicants must be able to read, write, follow directions and exert up to 100 pounds of force and endure exposure to all weather conditions. Applicants must have experience in skilled construction equipment operation and supervisory experience. Valid Class A CDL and street flagging certification is required.   Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. 
     
  • Electric Powerline Technician III (Electric Department)

    We are seeking a motivated team member to perform skilled journey level work.  Duties include but are not limited to: construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical power distribution systems. Position requires considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in power line work. The ideal candidate will have the ability to climb poles, work on high voltage lines under supervision, and take precautionary measures to avoid accidents. Valid Class A CDL and considerable experience required. This is an essential position for purposes of inclement weather.  Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
