Traffic Enforcement Unit
In North Carolina and across the United States, millions of injuries and deaths are caused each year by speeding, drunk driving, reckless driving, and other careless actions by drivers. In February 2006 the Wake Forest Police Department created the Traffic Enforcement Unit to promote safety awareness and reduce the number of traffic accidents in our area. OVERVIEW
The Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) was formed in February of 2006. This unit was started in a joint effort with the Governors Highway Safety Program to reduce motor vehicle crashes and increase enforcement of traffic violations. The TEU is currently funded partially by the Governors Highway Safety Grant. This grant allowed the Wake Forest Police Department to add personnel and task them with addressing the traffic safety concerns within the city.
The TEU is responsible for all motor vehicle crashes that occur on the roadway and its members are specially training in crash investigations. The unit also handles the majority of personal injury crashes and all fatal vehicle crashes.
The TEU’s main function is the enforcement of traffic violations, and it averages approximately 5,000 charges a year.
Another major function of the TEU is educating area citizens about traffic safety. The TEU gives presentations to schools, churches, and civic groups on traffic safety.
All the members of the TEU are also certified to install and teach the correct manner in which to install child restraint devices.
