OVERVIEW
The Investigative Division is responsible for both follow-up and in-depth investigations. Once a report is filed by the Patrol Division, it is forwarded to the Investigative Division for review. If sufficient information is available to initiate an investigation, the case is assigned to a detective or back to an officer. However, if insufficient information is provided, the case is classified as "Inactive" or "Closed." If and when additional information is discovered, the case is re-activated and the investigation resumes.
STOLEN PROPERTY
When it comes to stolen property, the most valuable information a person can provide to an investigating officer are the model number and serial number of the stolen property, as well as the name and address of potential suspects. The more information that is provided to the investigating officer, the greater the chance a suspect can be identified, located, and arrested.
TRUTH VERIFICATION EXAMINATIONS
The Investigative Division performs truth verification examinations for criminal cases, administrative cases, and pre-employment screening. The department also performs truth verification examinations for other area law enforcement agencies upon request.
The department has three certified examiners - Lt. T.H. Coleman, Sgt. J.R. Morris, and Det. D.L. Godfrey.
