DARE PROGRAM
The Wake Forest Police Department hosts an annual Carnival to raise money to provide the D.A.R.E. program with resources to purchase each graduating student with a certificate, a T-shirt, and other awards. The Wake Forest Police Department's DARE program is offered to elementary and middle schools, grades 5th and 8th, as well as teaching courses to K-4 grades. The DARE program teaches kids to make healthy decisions regarding drugs.

Officer Scott Graham is the Wake Forest Police Department's D.A.R.E. Instructor. He can be reached at (919) 554-6150 or by email at sgraham@wakeforestnc.gov.

SHOP WITH A COP
The Wake Forest Police Department (WFPD) raises money during the year to provide a joyous Christmas to disadvantaged children. Members of the police department "partner" with the the children and accompany them to Wal-Mart, where each child is given over $150 to spend. Each child must purchase a winter coat and the remaining amount can be spent on anything the child desires. The children are then brought back to the police department for an enjoyable pizza party.

Money is raised during the year from several fundraisers. The police department sells concessions at the yearly Wake Forest Hoops three-on-three basketball tournament. It also has a raffle at the "Fourth of July" celebration and hosts a Gospel singing event that takes place at Friendship Chapel Church in Wake Forest. Two police department detectives are members of gospel groups that organize and perform at the event.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS
The Wake Forest Police Department is a proud sponsor of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The department raises funds through donations, events, and the sales of Torch Run merchandise such as t-shirts and hats. The WFPD believes Special Olympics North Carolina is a worthy cause and has proudly participated in this fundraiser for over seven years. All monies raised by the department are donated directly to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. In 2004 The Law Enforcement Torch Run raised more than $20.5 million for Special Olympics Programs around the world. The funds raised allows Special Olympics North Carolina to provide year-round sports training and competition for more than 37,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in communities throughout the state. It is one of the largest Special Olympics programs in the world in terms of athlete participation.

POLICE CHAPLAINS
The WFPD has two police chaplains, Sergeant Richard Brown and Officer Mike Lawson. The chaplains are available 24 hours a day to assist all officers and members of the community during and after any critical incident.

CHILD ID PROGRAM
The WFPD makes child identification cards for children. The police department has specific times during the year that this service is offered.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE TEAM
The Community Response Team recently traveled to several cities in Mississippi to assist the victims of Huricane Katrina. The team worked hard to make a difference in this devastated area and touched the lives of many people.

"Tournament for the Kids" - Annual Golf Tournament
The Wake Forest Police Department hosts an annual golf tournament the first Monday in October. The tournament is held at Brevofield Golf Links on Camp Kanata Rd. just outside of Wwake Forest. All proceeds from the tournament go towards supporting our youth in Wake Forest such as sponsoring children's baseball teams in the Wake Forest Parks and Recreation League and providing give aways at the annual events such as Meet in the Street and the National Night Out.

The tournament is a super ball tournament comprised of four-man teams. The entry fee of $200.00 per team covers the greens fees, cart fees, and a dinner at the end of play. Each participant is eligible for door prizes during the event. Most of the door prizes have been donated by local businesses.
