D.A.R.E. PROGRAM
The D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program educates children and young adults about the dangers of drugs, gangs, and violence and teaches them to make healthy life choices. The police department hosts an annual carnival designed to raise money which is used to purchase a certificate, T-shirt, and other awards for D.A.R.E graduates. The program is offered to kindergarten, elementary, and middle school aged students.

For more information regarding the D.A.R.E. program, please contact Officer S. Graham at (919) 435-9599 or email him at sgraham@wakeforestnc.gov.

SHOP WITH A COP
The Shop with a Cop program raises money throughout the year in order to provide a joyous Christmas to underprivileged children within the community. Individual officers "partner" one on one with children and accompany them to Wal-Mart where each child is given over $175.00 to spend on anything he or she desires. Each child is also given a winter coat which is not part of the $175.00 spending money. After shopping, the children enjoy a pizza party at the Wake Forest Police Department with their partner officer.

For more information regarding Shop with a Cop, please contact Detective K. Warren at (919) 435-9599 or email her at kwarren@wakeforestnc.gov.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS

The Wake Forest Police Department is a proud sponsor of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The department raises funds through donations, events and the sale of Torch Run merchandise such as T-shirts and hats. The police department believes Special Olympics North Carolina is a worthy cause and has proudly participated in this fundraiser for over seven years. All funds obtained by the department are donated directly to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is Special Olympics' largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. In 2004, the Law Enforcement Torch Run raised more than $20.5 million for Special Olympics Programs around the world. The funds raised allowed Special Olympics North Carolina to provide year-round sports training and competition for more than 37,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities in communities throughout the state. It is one of the largest Special Olympics programs in the world in terms of athlete participation.

For more information regarding Special Olympics, please contact Sgt. J. Morris at (919) 435-9599 or email him at jmorris@wakeforestnc.gov.

POLICE CHAPLAINS
The police chaplain program is supervised by Sergeant R. Brown and is made up of three police chaplains. Two of these chaplains are police officers (Sgt. Brown and Officer M. Lawson) and one is a minister and member of the community (Chaplain Harold Lessner). The chaplains are available 24 hours a day to assist officers and members of the community during and after any critical incident. They are also available for any counseling needs the officers may have.

For more information regarding police chaplains, please contact Sgt. R. Brown at (919) 435-9599 or email him at rbrown@wakeforestnc.gov.

CHILD ID PROGRAM
