GENERAL INFORMATION
All GIS functions are coordinated through the Development Services Section of the Wake Forest Department of Planning & Inspections. This department houses a significant inventory of mapping data relevant to the history and development of the town. Data is typically compiled from three sources:
- Private Consultants. Prepared in conjunction with an approved project or plan.
- Wake County GIS. The county’s GIS Department serves as an excellent resource for many base layers of data which are updated regularly
- Wake Forest Planning & Inspections Department. The planning staff develops GIS data as necessary to augment the effectiveness of the planning process.
GIS data is a vital resource that greatly assists public sector professionals in the decision-making process. It also serves to provide valuable illustrative information to citizens, various civic groups and elected officials.
