Bulk Waste is defined by the Town of Wake Forest Code of Ordinances as “refuse including appliances, furniture and other large items weighing in excess of 75 pounds each.”
The following are examples of bulk pickup items:
- Lawn mowers
- Book shelves
The Town of Wake Forest does not pick up:
- Liquid paint
- Any hazardous material
- Wooden Pallets
- Electronics (TVs, computers, printers, copiers, etc.)
Note: Paint cans with dry paint only may be placed in the trash receptacle.
Frequency of Service
Bulk pickups are provided on Tuesdays on an as needed basis.
All pickups must be scheduled. To schedule a bulk pickup, please call 919-435-9570 or e-mail Betty Pearce by 2 p.m. on the Monday prior to the Tuesday. Bulk waste that is scheduled for collection before 2 p.m. on Monday will be picked up the following day (Tuesday).
Subject to the availability of equipment and to the provisions of this section, the maximum quantity of bulky waste which will be collected is not regulated.
Point of Service
Bulky waste shall be placed on the premises at the curb but not blocking the street or sidewalk.
Anything With a Plug Recycling.com is a Raleigh-based business providing free electronics removal service. Basically, they accept anything with a plug:
- Kitchen appliances
- Printers & copiers
- All types of cords and cables
- CRT monitors & TV sets (except Projection-Style TVs)
- Game consoles
- Cell phones

Household Hazardous Waste
Household hazardous materials cannot be disposed in the landfill because of their caustic properties and potential for environmental contamination. Wake County has established a collection program where residents can drop off these materials for proper disposal by a certified Household Hazardous Waste contractor.
