The Town of Wake Forest will host the official grand opening of its new town hall on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010. The new town hall is located at 301 S. Brooks St. in the heart of historic downtown Wake Forest.
The festivities get underway at 5:30 p.m. with a community concert featuring performances by the Wake Forest Singers, “The Street Genie” Freddy Greene, the Heritage Middle School Chorus, and the Dance Attic Dancers. The grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will follow at 6 p.m.
NBC 17 News Anchor Melanie Sanders will serve as our program emcee.
Immediately following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees will be invited to tour the facility and enjoy a reception featuring light refreshments.
The grand opening festivities are being planned in conjunction with Art After Hours - a celebration of the arts held the second Friday of each month in historic downtown Wake Forest. Sponsored by the Downtown Revitalization Corporation, Art After Hours features live music, gallery shows, and free horse and carriage rides throughout the Renaissance Area. Area residents are invited to attend the town hall grand opening, then visit downtown Wake Forest and experience all that Art After Hours has to offer. A complete list of participating downtown businesses is provided below.
All of the grand opening festivities are free and open to the public. Free parking for this event is available in several designated areas in the vicinity of town hall, including Renaissance Plaza.
The new Wake Forest Town Hall is expected to earn LEED Gold certification – or possibly, Platinum. Efficient lighting, heating, and cooling systems; innovative storm water controls and rainwater harvesting techniques; and the use of local and eco-friendly building materials incorporated as sustainable practices into the overall design will effectively reduce the Town’s use of water and energy and lower its environmental footprint. During the grand opening, you will have the opportunity to tour our new facility and learn more about the many green features integrated in its design and construction.
