Understanding the Town's Employment Application Process

To be considered for an opportunity with The Town of Wake Forest, you must complete a separate Employment Application for each position for which you are applying. Resumes alone do not qualify as an application and will not be considered unless attached to a fully completed Town of Wake Forest Employment Application. We only accept and consider Employment Applications for currently posted positions. Please check our job line 919-435-9498 or this website for a current list of our posted positions. You may download an application from this website or obtain one at Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. You may also call 919-435-9492 to have an application mailed to you. Applications must be received by mail, delivered to Town Hall or emailed to Virginia Jones by 5 p.m. on the closing day. All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening. EOE/ADA. Once submitted, application materials become the property of the Town.

When we receive an application, we send out a post card to each applicant to confirm receipt and to ensure consideration.  To check on the status of a position, please scroll down to the bottom of this page for additional information.  All qualified applications are forwarded to the hiring department and as soon as we hear from the hiring manager, we update both this webpage and our job line. Unless there is an update posted, applications are still being reviewed.  For general employees, we will contact you within two weeks of the position closing date if we are planning to pursue your candidacy.  Our hiring process takes longer for police officers, however, we will contact you within three months of receiving your application if we are interested in pursuing your candidacy.

  • Inspections Technician  (Inspections Department)
    Application Deadline: November 7, 2014
    Minimum Starting Salary: $33,619

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks to fill an Inspections Technician position in the Inspections Department at Town Hall. This position is responsible for issuing permits, receiving permitting applications and general administrative duties. Work also involves ordering supplies, preparing reports, balancing a check register daily, taking incoming phone calls and assisting walk in customers. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills as there is a high level of public interaction. Graduation from high school with considerable administrative and/or customer service experience preferred. Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m. -5:00p.m.
  • Inventory Specialist  (Finance Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks to fill its Inventory Specialist position at our Public Works Operation Center Warehouse. This position is responsible for purchasing supplies and materials to maintain warehouse stock including electrical, street, and office materials, parts, supplies and tools. The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of stocking or warehouse operations. Work involves stocking and inventorying materials, supplies, and equipment for the Town; receiving and verifying orders; re-ordering when inventory is low;  and handling the necessary records and reports for the warehousing function. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Purchasing Manager. Graduation from high school and some experience in a warehousing, stockroom or store operation (in an automated environment); or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license is also required. The ideal candidate must have previous forklift operator experience or must be willing to train and be certified as a forklift operator upon employment. Hours of work: Monday - Friday, 7:00a.m. - 4:00p.m.
  • Part-Time Audiovisual Technician  (Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest seeking a knowledgeable and professional individual for the position of Part-Time Audiovisual Technician. This position will work primarily at the Renaissance Centre. Responsibilities include the setup and operation of a digital soundboard, microphones, speakers, video screens, projectors and all lighting equipment. The selected candidate must be able to successfully fulfill the multimedia needs of a wide range of clients utilizing the Renaissance Centre for their special events. When necessary the A/V Technician will review technical riders for artists and coordinate with production managers. This position will have flexible daytime hours with some evenings and weekends. Minimum qualifications include 2-5 years of verifiable experience as an A/V Technician.

    We are seeking a motivated team member to perform a variety of tasks in construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks/curbs and storm drainage. This position requires experience in construction work and the ability to operate construction equipment and tools safely. Applicants must be able to read, write, follow directions and exert up to 100 pounds of force and endure exposure to all weather conditions. Applicants must also have experience in skilled construction equipment operation and supervisory experience is preferred. Class A CDL is required. Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 
  • Construction Worker III (Streets Department)

    We are seeking a motivated team member to perform a variety of labor tasks in construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks/curbs and storm drainage. This position requires extensive construction experience, operation of equipment at a high skill level, leading of work crews in the absence of a crew supervisor, and the ability to operate construction equipment and tools safely. Applicants must be able to read, write, follow directions and exert up to 100 pounds of force and endure exposure to all weather conditions. Applicants must have experience in skilled construction equipment operation and supervisory experience. Valid Class A CDL and street flagging certification is required. Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Street Crew Supervisor(Streets Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $38,918

    We are looking for a highly motivated team member with experience in skilled equipment operation and supervision of a crew. Must be able to operate a variety of heavy equipment and assist the crew with a variety of jobs including patching potholes, repairing sidewalks, curbs, gutters and driveway aprons. This individual will also perform semi-skilled & skilled work in street maintenance, right of way maintenance, construction & maintenance of storm sewers and miscellaneous work. Applicants must be able to read, write and exert up to 100 pounds of force with exposure to all weather conditions. A good driving record is essential. Considerable related construction experience and Class A CDL required. Hours of work:  Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Equipment Mechanic II (Fleet Maintenance Department)

    We are seeking a qualified applicant to serve as a skilled mechanic in the garage. The ideal candidate will perform minor and/or complex automotive and mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel engines and/or preventative maintenance on all types of automotive and construction equipment. The work requires operation of various test equipment and hand tools in order to support the work activities. The employee is subject to hazards associated with mechanical repairs including working in both inside and outside environments and may be subject to unscheduled overtime and occasional overnight training courses. High school diploma or GED, considerable experience and technical and electronics training preferred. Class A CDL required. Hours of work: Monday- Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 
  • Electric Powerline Technician III (Electric Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $42,907

    We are seeking a motivated team member to perform skilled journey level work. Duties include but are not limited to: construction, maintenance and repair of electrical power distribution systems. Position requires considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in power line work. The ideal candidate will have the ability to climb poles, work on high voltage lines under supervision and take precautionary measures to avoid accidents. Valid Class A CDL & considerable experience required. Hours of work: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Police Officer  (Public Safety Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified officers to join our Public Safety Department. Selected individuals will perform general law enforcement work to protect life and property with the Town of Wake Forest Corporate limits. A high school diploma or equivalent is required along with a valid NC Drivers license. Applicants must have no criminal record and need to submit to a background check, polygraph, a physical and psychological screening. North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is required. Only applicants with NCBLET Certification will be considered. Shift work required.
