Understanding the Town's Employment Application Process

To be considered for an opportunity with The Town of Wake Forest, you must complete a separate Employment Application for each position for which you are applying. Resumes alone do not qualify as an application and will not be considered unless attached to a fully completed Town of Wake Forest Employment Application. You may download an application from this website or obtain one at Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. You may also call 919-435-9492 to have an application mailed to you. Applications must be received by mail, delivered to Town Hall or emailed to Virginia Jones by 5 p.m. on the closing day. All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening. EOE/ADA. Once submitted, application materials become the property of the Town.

When we receive an application, we send out a post card to each applicant to confirm receipt and to ensure consideration.  To check on the status of a position, please scroll down to the bottom of this page for additional information.  All qualified applications are forwarded to the hiring department and as soon as we hear from the hiring manager, we update both this webpage and our job line. Unless there is an update posted, applications are still being reviewed.  For general employees, we will contact you within two weeks of the position closing date if we are planning to pursue your candidacy.  Our hiring process takes longer for police officers, however, we will contact you within three months of receiving your application if we are interested in pursuing your candidacy.

  • Energy Auditor & Line Location Specialist (Electric Department)

     The Town of Wake Forest is seeking an enthusiastic individual for the position of Energy Auditor and Line Location Specialist with our Public Works Department, Electric Division. Duties will include but are not limited to: performing line locates to identify underground electrical lines and the continued development and implementation of the Town's residential energy auditing program. The successful candidate will be very comfortable with public interaction as this position enjoys a high degree of citizen contact including the creation and execution of Energy Fair presentations. This position reports to the Electric Meter Supervisor however, work is performed independently therefore the selected candidate will be expected to exercise discretion and sound decision-making. All work is performed in the presence of energized electrical lines. Hours of work: 7:00am-3:30pm.
  • Part Time Special Events Coordinator  (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is accepting applications for a Part-Time Special Events Coordinator. This position will responsible for coordinating and planning special events and activities to enhance the Town of Wake Forest community. Duties include but are not limited to volunteer and vendor coordination, event planning, event survey analysis and assistance with marketing material preparation. Previous event planning and public or community relations experience strongly preferred. Night and weekend work required.

    We The Town of Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is accepting applications for a Part-Time Specialized Recreation Programs Coordinator. This position will responsible for special needs program development, implementation and supervision. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills and experience working with youth and adults with special needs. College level course work in physical education, therapeutic education or a combination of experience and education required. Night and weekend work required.
  • Part Time Event Staff  (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is accepting applications for Part-Time Event Staff to execute a wide range of duties for the Renaissance Centre. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule primarily daytime hours with occasional nights and weekends. Duties will include but are not limited to: moving tables and chairs to create subsequently tear down various room layouts, formal and informal place settings, ticket collection, concession sales, coat check, clearing tables, beverage service and most importantly providing excellent guest services. Applicants with prior work experience as service staff preferred.
  • Telecommunications Supervisor (Public Safety Department)

    We are seeking an enthusiastic and experience team member to supervise, manage and oversee the activities of the Police Communications Center. The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of Telecommunications experience. An employee in this position must be able to interact positively and work well with others and serve as a coach, mentor, leader, and manager based on staffing needs. Work involves frequent contact with the public which requires tact, firmness, decisiveness, and judgment in obtaining necessary information from people who are often under extreme stress. Work is performed in accordance with department policy, state and federal law, and is supplemented with specific directions from sworn personnel. The ideal candidate must be able to work, nights, weekends, and holidays. Work is normally performed under the supervision of a Police Captain and is evaluated through observation, monitoring of radio communication, discussion, and review of reports. Graduation from high school and considerable experience in supervising & managing a police communications center are preferred. We will also consider an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have or be able to be certified by the State of North Carolina as a DCI Operator and Terminal Agency Coordinator (TAC). This is considered an "essential" position for purposes of inclement weather.
  • Electric Meter Technician (Electric Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $39,891

    We are seeking a candidate to perform semi-skilled work in the operation and management of the Electrical Load Management, Automatic Meter Reading (AMR/AMI) and SCADA systems within the Town's electrical distribution systems. The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of Load Management, AMR/AMI equipment, automation and software,  CT's/PT's, SCADA and three phase metering. Working in extreme temperatures, working knowledge of OSHA regulations and frequent on-call and callback work required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Electric Meter System Supervisor. Extensive experience as a Journeyman Meter Technician and a Class A CDL are required. CPR and First Aid knowledge preferred. Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30pm.
  • Yard Waste Equipment Operator (Environmental Services Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $29,767

    We are looking for a team member to perform responsible work in yard waste collection and the delivery of Solid Waste and Recycling Carts. The ideal candidate will operate construction equipment including trucks, dump trucks, knuckle boom truck, compactor truck and other medium and light equipment. This person will serve on a crew to collect yard waste such as limbs, grass clippings and leaves. Must have the ability to work cooperatively as a team member and respond courteously to citizens. Valid Class B CDL required. Must be able to read, write and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently and 20 pounds of force constantly.  Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm.
  • Construction Worker III (Streets Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $34,459

    We are looking for a highly motivated team member to perform a variety of tasks in construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalk/curb and storm drainage. This position requires extensive construction experience, operation of equipment at a high skill level, leading of work crews n the absence of a crew supervisor, and the ability to operate construction equipment and tools safely. Applicants must be able to read, write, follow directions and exert up to 100 pounds of force and endure exposure to all weather conditions. Applicants must have experience in skilled construction equipment operation and supervisory experience. Valid Class A CDL and street flagging certification required.   Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00a.m. - 3:30p.m.
