Understanding the Town's Employment Application Process

To be considered for an opportunity with The Town of Wake Forest, you must complete a separate Employment Application for each position for which you are applying. Resumes alone do not qualify as an application and will not be considered unless attached to a fully completed Town of Wake Forest Employment Application. We only accept and consider Employment Applications for currently posted positions. Please check our job line 919-435-9498 or this website for a current list of our posted positions. You may download an application from this website or obtain one at Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. You may also call 919-435-9492 to have an application mailed to you. Applications must be received by mail, delivered to Town Hall or emailed to HumanResources@wakeforestnc.gov by 5 p.m. on the closing day. All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening. EOE/ADA. Once submitted, application materials become the property of the Town.

When we receive an application, we send out a post card to each applicant to confirm receipt and to ensure consideration.  To check on the status of a position, please scroll down to the bottom of this page for additional information.  All qualified applications are forwarded to the hiring department and as soon as we hear from the hiring manager, we update both this webpage and our job line. Unless there is an update posted, applications are still being reviewed.  For general employees, we will contact you within two weeks of the position closing date if we are planning to pursue your candidacy.  Our hiring process takes longer for police officers, however, we will contact you within three months of receiving your application if we are interested in pursuing your candidacy.

  • Summer Day Camp Program Director (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)
    Application Deadline: Open until filled
    Minimum Starting Salary: $12.06/hour

    We are currently accepting applications for Temporary Summer Camp Director to plan and implement summer camp activities. Responsibilities include: overseeing the daily functions of the program, supervising staff, and providing direction to instructors. This camp program operate on a full-day schedule with activities including arts & crafts, sports and creative dance for participants ages 6-12. Additional responsibilities consist of general facility upkeep and maintenance of records and logs.  Minimum qualifications include: a valid NC Driver's License, High School Diploma or GED, and possession of First Aid and CPR certifications before camp begins. Preferred qualifications include: 2+ years experience as a teacher, teacher's aid, or childcare provider. Progressive employment experience in a camp setting will also be considered. All applicants will be subject to a comprehensive background screening. Work schedule: 25-30 hours a week from mid-June to mid-August.
  • Summer Day Camp Program Counselors (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    We are currently accepting applications for Temporary, Summer Camp Counselors to perform a variety of duties with camp participants ages 6-12. Successful candidates are dependable, conscientious and work best as a part of a team. Counselors work under the direct supervision of camp management staff. Minimum qualifications include: High School Diploma or GED or (3) teacher references letters. All applicants will be subject to a comprehensive background screening.
  • Summer Maintenance Workers(Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    We are currently accepting applications for Temporary Maintenance Workers. Responsibilities include landscaping, mowing and park & facility cleaning. Position begins in Mid-April and ends in early August. Work schedule is anticipated to be approximately 20-40 hours per week. Evening and weekend work will be required. Minimum qualifications include: High School Diploma or GED or (3) teacher references letters, Valid NC Driver's License. All applicants will be subject to a comprehensive background screening.
  • Lifeguards (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    We are currently accepting applications for Lifeguards to work at Holding Park Pool. Minimum qualifications include First Aid/CPR and American Red Cross Lifeguard certifications. All applicants will be subject to a comprehensive background screening. Work schedule is approximately 25-30 hours per week from mate May to mid August.

  • Part-Time Recreation Center Supervisor (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    We are currently accepting  applications for a team member to work at the Alston-Massenburg Center located in the Town of Wake Forest. The ideal candidate must be able to work approximately 20 hours a week between the hours of 2:00pm-8:00pm Monday-Friday. Night and weekend work may be required. The employee in this position will perform a variety of complex duties in the operation and supervision of a community-based recreational facility. This position is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day supervision of various activities and services administered by the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department. Areas of assignment will include assisting with Special Events, Preschool and Youth Programs, Athletics, Adult Programming and Senior Programs. The selected candidate will be expected to obtain the following certifications within six months of hire: First Aid/CPR/AED certification.

    The Town of Wake Forest is seeking an enthusiastic  team-player to receive incoming routine and emergency calls and requests for service concerning emergencies and general information. The ideal candidate must be able to operate a variety of electronic equipment, multi-task and answer several incoming calls at once. Considerable public contact required. DCI operator certification is preferred and a thorough background investigation will be conducted, as this a highly sensitive position. High school diploma or equivalent required. Work schedule: 12 hour shifts, 4 days on & 4 days off.
  • Construction Worker III (Streets Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $34,459

    We are seeking a motivated team member to perform a variety of labor tasks in construction, maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks/curbs and storm drainage. This position requires extensive construction experience, operation of equipment at a high skill level, leading of work crews in the absence of a crew supervisor, and the ability to operate construction equipment and tools safely. Applicants must be able to read, write, follow directions and exert up to 100 pounds of force and endure exposure to all weather conditions. Applicants must have experience in skilled construction equipment operation and supervisory experience. Valid Class A CDL and street flagging certification is required.   Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
  • Transportation Planner (Planning Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary Range: $50,912-$60,000

    The Town of Wake Forest Is seeking a candidate to join our Planning Department. The ideal candidate will have experience in transportation planning & design, right of way coordination, grant writing, and project management. We are seeking a staff person that can assist with Capital Improvement Project implementation for various transportation projects (roadway, sidewalk, greenway, etc.). Coordination with residents, other departments within the Town, external agencies, contractors and elected officials required. Work will require excellent verbal and written skills, great attention to detail and working independently. A Bachelor's Degree in planning, civil engineering or related field required. Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
  • Economic Development Director (Administration Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary Range:  $75,222-$90,000

    The Town of Wake Forest seeks an enthusiastic, hard working person with good people skills to manage the economic development initiative of the Town to include developing and directing an economic development strategy and program for the Town.  The successful candidate will be responsible for consulting with local, regional and state officials, community leaders, and industry executives for the purpose of promoting the technological, industrial, retail, and commercial growth of the Town through expansion and retention of existing economic bases, and attraction of new business into the Town.  The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing information for recruiting new businesses and supporting  the success and expansion of existing ones; marketing the Town; writing grants and submitting periodic grant reports; providing technical expertise to the business community; developing and maintaining data, statistics, and publications which portray the economic potential of the Town; supervising staff and providing support to the Manager, Council, Chamber and other groups. Work requires considerable planning and timely execution of work. Decisions must be made quickly and with accuracy when dealing with the site selection consultants and economic development management teams.  The ideal candidate will need to be able to exercise independent judgment and simultaneously consider financial, socio-economic, legal, and regulatory variables as they affect the Town. Work is performed under the general direction of the Town Manager.  Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a  degree in business, planning, economics, or related field supplemented by training in economic development and considerable professional experience in economic development; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Special consideration will be given to those that hold a masters degree and/or designation as a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD).  Hours of work: Monday- Friday, 8:00am- 5:00pm. 
  • Electric Powerline Technician III (Electric Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $43,980

    We are seeking a motivated team member to perform skilled journey level work.  Duties include but are not limited to: construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical power distribution systems. Position requires considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions involved in power line work. The ideal candidate will have the ability to climb poles, work on high voltage lines under supervision, and take precautionary measures to avoid accidents. Valid Class A CDL and considerable experience required. This is an essential position for purposes of inclement weather.  Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm.
