Understanding the Town's Employment Application Process

To be considered for an opportunity with The Town of Wake Forest, you must complete a separate Employment Application for each position for which you are applying. Resumes alone do not qualify as an application and will not be considered unless attached to a fully completed Town of Wake Forest Employment Application. You may download an application from this website or obtain one at Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. You may also call 919-435-9492 to have an application mailed to you. Applications must be received by mail, delivered to Town Hall or emailed to Virginia Jones by 5 p.m. on the closing day. All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening. EOE/ADA. Once submitted, application materials become the property of the Town.

When we receive an application, we send out a post card to each applicant to confirm receipt and to ensure consideration.  To check on the status of a position, please scroll down to the bottom of this page for additional information.  All qualified applications are forwarded to the hiring department and as soon as we hear from the hiring manager, we update both this webpage and our job line. Unless there is an update posted, applications are still being reviewed.  For general employees, we will contact you within two weeks of the position closing date if we are planning to pursue your candidacy.  Our hiring process takes longer for police officers, however, we will contact you within three months of receiving your application if we are interested in pursuing your candidacy.

  • Part-Time Audiovisual Technician (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest is seeking a knowledgeable and professional individual for the position of Part-Time Audio/Lighting Technician. This position will work primarily in the Renaissance Centre. Responsibilities include the setup and operation of a digital soundboard, microphones, speakers, video screens, projectors and all lighting equipment. The selected candidate must be able to successfully fulfill the multimedia needs of a wide range of clients utilizing the Renaissance Centre for their special events. When necessary the A/V Technician will review technical riders for artists and coordinate with production managers. This position will have flexible daytime hours with some evenings and weekends. Minimum qualifications include 2-5 years of verifiable experience as an A/V Technician.
  • Police Officer  (Public Safety Department)

    We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified officer to join our Public Safety Department. This individual will perform general law enforcement work to protect life and property with the Town of Wake Forest Corporate limits. A high school diploma or equivalent is required along with a valid NC Drivers license. Applicants must have no criminal record and need to submit to a background check, polygraph, a physical and psychological screening. Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) is required. Only applicants with BLET Certification will be considered. Shift work required.

    We are looking for a highly motivated team member with experience in skilled equipment operation and supervision of a crew. Must be able to operate a variety of heavy equipment and assist the crew with a variety of jobs including patching potholes, repairing sidewalks, curbs, gutters and driveway aprons. This individual will also perform semi-skilled & skilled work in street maintenance, right of way maintenance, construction & maintenance of storm sewers and miscellaneous work. Applicants must be able to read, write and exert up to 100 pounds of force with exposure to all weather conditions. A good driving record is essential. Considerable related construction experience and Class A CDL required. Hours of work:  Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

    We are accepting applications for lifeguards to work at Holding Park Pool. Minimum qualifications include: First Aid/CPR and American Red Cross Lifeguard certifications. All applicants will be subject to a comprehensive background screening. Work schedule is approximately 25-40 hours per week from late May to mid-August.
  • Equipment Mechanic II (Fleet Maintenance Department)

    We are seeking a qualified applicant to serve as a skilled mechanic in the garage. The ideal candidate will perform minor and/or complex automotive and mechanical work repairing gasoline and diesel engines and/or preventative maintenance on all types of automotive and construction equipment. The work requires operation of various test equipment and hand tools in order to support the work activities. The employee is subject to hazards associated with mechanical repairs including working in both inside and outside environments and may be subject to unscheduled overtime and occasional overnight training courses. High school diploma or GED, considerable experience and technical and electronics training preferred. Class A CDL required. Hours of work: Monday- Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 
  • Construction Worker I (Streets Department)

    We are seeking a motivated team member to maintain public grounds, cemeteries, and rights-of-way. Maintenance work includes mowing, trimming and cleaning duties. Work is performed primarily outside even in extreme hot and cold weather conditions. Some lower level construction work required. Valid Class B CDL required. Hours of work: 7:00 a.m. -3:30 p.m.
  • Event Staff-part time (Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    The Town of Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department is accepting applications for Part Time Event Staff to execute a wide range of duties for the Renaissance Centre. Candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule primarily daytime hours with occasional nights and weekends. Duties will include but are not limited to: moving tables and chairs to create and subsequently breakdown various room layouts, formal and informal place settings, ticket collection, concession sales, coat check, clearing tables, beverage service and most importantly providing exceptional guest services. Applicants with prior work experience as service staff preferred.
  • Yard Waste Collector (Environmental Services Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $25,087

    We are looking for a team member to perform responsible work in yard waste collection and the delivery of solid waste and recycling carts. The ideal candidate will operate construction equipment including trucks, knuckle boom truck, compactor truck and other medium and light equipment. This person will serve on a crew to collect yard waste such as limbs, grass clippings and leaves. Must have the ability to work cooperatively as a team member and respond courteously to citizens. Valid NCDL required, Class B CDL preferred. Must be able to red, write and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently and 20 pounds constantly. Hours of work: Monday -Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • Urban Forester(Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department)

    We are seeking a team member to plan, develop and manage the Town's Urban Forestry program. Responsibilities for this position include serving in an advisory role for other Town staff members, builders and developers, community organizations, citizens, businesses, volunteer groups and the media. The Urban Forester will make recommendations regarding the ideal planting, maintenance and preservation of trees located in open spaces, landscaped areas, and pre and post-construction sites. This position is responsible for developing and delivering community educational programs regarding urban forestry. The employee in this position will manage and coordinate the planting, maintenance, removal, preservation and protection of trees located on Town property including, in and around parks and greenways, right-of-ways and other public grounds. Work also includes serving as the staff liaison on the Urban Forestry Board. Minimum requirements include: possession of a valid NC pesticide applicator license or the desire and ability to obtain said license within six months of hire. A Bachelor's degree in forestry, horticulture, arboriculture or related field is also required. Preferred qualifications include 2-5 years of work experience as a Community or Urban Forester, Arborist or related position. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
