Understanding the Town's Employment Application Process

To be considered for an opportunity with The Town of Wake Forest, you must complete a separate Employment Application for each position for which you are applying. Resumes alone do not qualify as an application and will not be considered unless attached to a fully completed Town of Wake Forest Employment Application. We only accept and consider Employment Applications for currently posted positions. Please check our job line 919-435-9498 or this website for a current list of our posted positions. You may download an application from this website or obtain one at Town Hall, 301 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC 27587. You may also call 919-435-9492 to have an application mailed to you. Applications must be received by mail, delivered to Town Hall or emailed to Virginia Jones by 5 p.m. on the closing day. All applicants must pass a pre-employment drug screening. EOE/ADA. Once submitted, application materials become the property of the Town.

When we receive an application, we send out a post card to each applicant to confirm receipt and to ensure consideration.  To check on the status of a position, please scroll down to the bottom of this page for additional information.  All qualified applications are forwarded to the hiring department and as soon as we hear from the hiring manager, we update both this webpage and our job line. Unless there is an update posted, applications are still being reviewed.  For general employees, we will contact you within two weeks of the position closing date if we are planning to pursue your candidacy.  Our hiring process takes longer for police officers, however, we will contact you within three months of receiving your application if we are interested in pursuing your candidacy.

  • Tree Trimming Technician I (Tree Trimming Department)
    Application Deadline: Open until filled
    Minimum Starting Salary: $35,300

    We are looking for a dynamic team player to work near energized conductors/high voltage lines and operate specialized, heavy forestry/arboricultural vehicles and equipment working from an aerial lift and/or climbing trees and skillfully using power hand tools to perform multiple tree pruning, removal planting and maintenance functions with the urban forestry program. Work is performed on street rights-of-way, in parks, in sewer outfalls, and around Town facilities and land holdings. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment under general supervision. This position also requires responses to emergency tree maintenance needs, which are sometimes after normal business hours. Class A CDL required. Line Clearance Tree Trimmer Certification within 6 months of hire required.  Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00a.m. - 3:30p.m.
  • Electric System Meter Supervisor (Electric Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $49,670

    We are seeking a Supervisory candidate to perform skilled Supervisory level work in the operation and management of the Electrical Load Management, Automatic Meter Reading (AMR/AMI) and SCADA system's within the Town's electrical distribution systems. The ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of Load Management, AMR/AMI equipment, automation and software, CT's/PT's, SCADA and three phase metering. Working in extreme temperatures, working knowledge of OSHA regulations and frequent on-call and callback work required. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Works Director. Extensive experience as a Journeyman Meter Technician and a Class A NC CDL are required. CPR and First Aid knowledge preferred. Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 7:00a.m. - 3:30p.m.
  • Transportation Planner (Planning Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $49,670

    The Town of Wake Forest is seeking a candidate to join our Planning Department. The ideal candidate will have experience in transportation planning & design, right of way coordination, grant writing, and project management. We are seeking a staff person that can assist with Capital Improvement Project implementation for various transportation projects (roadway, sidewalk, greenway, etc.). Coordination with residents, other departments within the Town, external agencies, contractors and elected officials required. Work will require excellent verbal and written skills, great attention to detail and working independently. A Bachelor's Degree in planning, civil engineering or related field required. A Master's Degree in Transportation or related field and a minimum of 3 years relevant planning experience preferred. Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m. -5:00p.m. 
  • Police Officer (Public Safety Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $38,918

    The Town of Wake Forest Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified officers to join our Police Department. Selected individuals will perform general law enforcement work to protect life and property within the Town of Wake Forest corporate limits. A high school diploma or equivalent is required along with a valid NC Drivers License. Applicants must have no criminal record and need to submit to a background check, a polygraph, a physical and psychological screening. North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) required. Only applicants with NCBLET Certification will be considered. Shift work required.
  • Lifeguards (Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department)

    Minimum Starting Salary: $8.25/hour

    We are currently accepting applications for Lifeguards to work at Holding Park Pool.  Minimum qualifications include: First Aid/CPR and American Red Cross Lifeguard certifications . All applicants will be subject to a comprehensive background screening. Work schedule is approximately 25-30 hours per week from late May to mid August.
