Project Overview
The Town of Wake Forest has initiated the US 1A/South Main Street Roadway Widening Project.
The project extends along US 1A/South Main Street from Farm Road to Forestville Road. Upon completion, this half-mile corridor will expand to a three-lane curb and gutter section with four-foot bike lanes on both sides of US 1A/South Main Street and a sidewalk along the left-hand side of the road (traveling towards downtown).
Construction is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2010.
The Town of Wake Forest has created this web page for area residents who wish to track the progress of this project. The site includes news and updates, project highlights, a construction progress report, and contact information.
The Town of Wake Forest recognizes that road construction is an inconvenience to the residents and business owners in our community. We thank you for your patience.
Goals & Outcomes
This project is designed to help alleviate backups along South Main Street/US 1A caused by left-turn movements within the corridor. Traffic is expected to run smoother following the construction of the third lane.
